PC reservations for libraries, schools and universities

All-in-one PC reservations. No Deep Freeze required.

Carrel signs people in, enforces your time limits, takes reservations and prints guest passes. When each session ends, it clears that person's files, downloads and browsing, so you don't need Deep Freeze, Reboot Restore Rx, CleanSlate or a restart between users.

Everything your shared PCs need, in one product

A clean PC for every user

Each person's documents, downloads, browser history and saved passwords are deleted at sign-out. The next person gets a fresh session without a reboot.

Move reservations to another PC

When a PC breaks, move its reservations to a replacement in a few clicks. Carrel warns you first if the move would end someone's session or break a time limit.

Guest passes your way

Design the receipt with your logo, wording and barcode type, check a sample, then print passes one at a time or in a batch for a class visit.

Reservations and waitlists

People reserve a PC from their phone or join a waitlist. When a PC frees up, it's held for the next person and they get a text or email.

Sign in with the card they have

Library cards and student IDs are checked against your library system over SIP2, including fines, age groups and daily minutes.

Keeps working offline

If the network or your library system goes down, PCs keep enforcing your rules and running sessions, then catch up when the connection returns.

Run the floor from one screen

Every PC at every location, live. Add time, see who's signed in, message a computer or end a session without leaving the desk.

Different rules for every room

Set limits once for everywhere, then change only what's different. Each layer inherits from the one above, so a teen room can have shorter sessions while still sharing the building's daily limit.

  1. All locations60-minute sessions, 2 hours a day, 8 hours a week
  2. LocationDowntown stays open late and closes the PCs at 9 PM
  3. Group of PCsExpress PCs get 15-minute sessions with their own daily time
  4. SectionThe second-floor teen room is only for ages 12 to 18
  5. Age groupChildren get 30-minute sessions, wherever they sign in

Up and running in an afternoon

  1. Install the agent

Push one signed MSI to your Windows PCs with Group Policy or Intune. Each PC enrolls with a location token.

  2. Connect your library system

Point Carrel at your SIP2 server so people sign in with the card or ID they already have.

  3. Set your rules

Minutes per day, session length, extensions and age groups, per location, group of PCs or section.

  4. Open the doors

Staff run the floor from a browser. Everyone else signs in, reserves and gets on with their day.

For libraries

Replace your PC reservation system and your cleanup software, such as Deep Freeze, Reboot Restore Rx or CleanSlate, with one product. Staff see every PC in a live grid, issue guest passes, and handle no-shows, waitlists and broken PCs without a call to IT.

For schools and universities

Book a whole lab or a set of PCs for a class with one shared pass that works only for that booking. Students sign in with their ID, and every session starts clean, without freezing the lab’s PCs.
